Exploring Judgment and Redemption
Friday, June 12, 2009
Following the 7:30PM-8:30PM performance of Chapel/Chapter
At Harlem Stage
Leading with the question, "How can this event suggest the uneasy distance our mediatized era helps create between the passive observers which we are and the disturbing, sometimes incomprehensible 'news items' we encounter every day?"; Bill T. Jones' Chapel/Chapter is a site-specific, multi-media, dance-theater work that delves into the difficult psyche of two highly visible news stories, and a rumination/confession of a company member.
Taking place on the set of this investigative work, this special edition of the Breaking Ground community dialogue series seeks to respond to this question and explore tensions and intersections between the concepts of judgment, redemption, and the effects of media publicity thereon. Joined by experts in the legal field, Bill T. Jones moderates a discussion addressing the themes in Chapel/Chapter and examines the assumption that we always live in the court of public opinion, transgression and judgment.
Admission with purchase of ticket to the Friday, June 12, performance of Chapel/Chapter.
