Fela Is Alive! is the fifth of the innovative community discussions, "Breaking Ground with Bill T. Jones" co-presented with Harlem Stage. Building on his experience as creator, director and choreographer of the Off-Broadway musical Fela!, Tony Awardwinning Bill T. Jones will convene a dynamic panel of performers, artists and scholars to explore the extraordinary popularity and influence of the groundbreaking African composer and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and discuss the relevance and implications of his story in today's cultural and political landscape. Guests include legendary musician Roy Ayers; Aaron Johnson, musical director of Antibalas; Sahr Ngaujah, lead in Fela! Off-Broadway; Rikki Stein, Kuti's manager of 15 years; and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, founder and choreographer of Urban Bush Women.
