Education Programs

The Company's Education Programs are an expansion of the Company's 25-year history of providing master classes and outreach activities around the world.

As part of its education program, the Company launched a Teaching Program in 2007. Led by Bill T. Jones and Associate Artistic Director, Janet Wong, the Teaching Program enables the Company to deepen its contributions to the field and broaden its influence upon the development of artists. The training of the pre-professional and professional dancer is the primary focus for which two types of classes are offered: Master Classes and Repertory Workshops.

In addition, the Company is entering the second year of offering a program to help meet the arts education needs of Harlem's public school students. The Company is partnering with Randall's Island Sports Foundation to develop Kids in Motion, a dance program designed to give children during-school dance education. The Company started the pilot program of Kids in Motion in Fall 2007, with a full-year program set to begin in Fall 2008.

Master Classes

Led by Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong and Company dancers, the Master Class is designed to provide a solid technical base, a deep sense of alignment, and the tools to dance, think, feel, and respond. All directions of the body are accessed through floor work, standing floor sequences, movement phrases, and across the floor sequences.

Workshops

Led by Associate Artistic Director, Janet Wong, the Company's Workshops offer participating dance artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Jones/Zane choreographic and investigative approach through task-oriented exercise, improvisation, and composition with the full Company. In addition, dance artists may learn excerpts of select repertory and explore the process that was involved in the creation of a specific work.

Happy New Year!

It is raining outside Woodbox, our little retreat on the mesa of Northern New Mexico. The past two weeks have been blissfully quiet - a fitting respite after this intense though rewarding year.

Bill T. Jones Adapts a Poetic Puppet Play
By Deborah Jowitt

"Bill T. Jones is full of surprises. Who'd imagine he'd turn Jane Bowles's eccentrically poetic 1945 puppet play, A Quarreling Pair, into a parable in the form of a variety show....
