A Quarreling Pair

Bill T. Jones - A Quarreling Pair A Quarreling Pair - How do we human beings live together? How do we co-exist with others who may be close to us, yet so very different from ourselves? How do we live with those not only in our own household, but in our neighborhood, our city, our country and our ever-fracturing planet? The nature of co-habitation against all odds is at the heart of A Quarreling Pair, in which Bill T. Jones explores the dualities between any two people and the struggle to co-habitate and to live together against all odds. View Images and more info…

Chapel/Chapter

Bill T. Jones - Chapel/Chapter Bill T. Jones sees Chapel/Chapter in its present form as the beginning of an investigation. As always, the work is proceeding from a set of questions. For Jones the lead question might be, "How can this event suggest the uneasy distance our mediatized era helps create between the passive observers which we are and the disturbing, sometimes incomprehensible 'news items' we encounter every day. Serenade/The Proposition

Bill T. Jones - Serenade/The Proposition The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company launches its 25th Anniversary celebration with a new piece. Serenade/The Proposition explores the passage of time and the unique moral conflicts America has struggled with since its founding, through the use of movement, plainsong, and text. Our connection to history is evoked with stunning video by Janet Wong and an original score blending classical and folk music in a contemporary pastiche by electric cellist Chris Lancaster, Juilliard's Jerome Begin on piano and text performed in plainsong style by soprano Lisa Komara. Serenade/The Proposition transports the viewer through time with its iconic set design by Bjorn Amelan, Jones' cast of fierce dancers, actor Andrea Smith - and - completing the longtime collaborative team, lighting designed by Robert Wierzel and costumes by Liz Prince. ◊ Roots, Renaissance, Revolution!
June 19, 2009

I told Anne that while I am flattered to be seen as a "revolutionary" it would be more accurate and less pompous if I said simply that I am a survivor working with every tool I have to make work, maintain an organization (will we always be a dance company?) and stay in touch with that impulse that lead me to this life in the first place.
